Even though you know at the outset what will happen, this book is well worth the journey. It is revealed immediately that the main character's abusive husband will eventually find her and their son in their hiding place, but there is constant tension in wondering how and when. Quindlen gets inside the abused wife's head and makes the reader care deeply about her and her son, rooting for them, even though it is certain that they will be found. Very well written and a quick read. "One True Thing" is still Quindlen's best, but this is very good.
