The second Alex Delaware continues a year after the previous instalment. He is a psychologist who becomes involved in police work in Los Angeles and in this story investigates the abduction of a child from hospital. I liked the way characters are fleshed out such as the doctor who passionately wants to heal but is unable to relate to his patients; and the subplot of the depressed father trying to come to terms with his divorce settlement. The psychologist's analysis of people's character flaws makes for interesting reading and the main plot kept me guessing until the end.
