Jeeta lives with her middle class traditional family in Mumbai. The third of three sisters, at 16 she is already feeling the pressure for an arranged marriage. A new friend interests her in academics and a career in law and introduces her to a boy. Any male romance and friendship is strictly forbidden by her family. Jeeta wants to both do what is right for her family, but also follow her own path. She is outspoken and stubborn and is figuring out the intricacies of her family and society. The book was sweet and enjoyable, however a few of the characters felt a little stereotypical. A safe recommendation in terms of language and sex (or lack thereof) and a sweet coming of age story set in another country.
