I had such high hopes for this book, and was sorely disappointed. The premise is fantastic- author Rubin aspires to tweak parts of her life over the course of a year in order to turn her not-unhappy-but-not-ecstatic existence around. Though I appreciated her conversational writing style, the daily minutiae about which she complains immediately grated on my nerves. In all honesty, Rubin has a very comfortable, Upper East Side life, with a healthy family and a satisfying career. Her problems seem trite and quite disconnected from the everyday existence of the average Jane. It's hard to boohoo someone who has a multi-millionaire husband, household help, and pretty much all the free time in the world to do as she pleases.
