I read this book in high school and I remembered that I enjoyed it, but I couldn't remember very many details. I'm glad that I re-read it because I had rated it a 3, but now that it's fresh in my mind I see that it deserves much more than that. This is an awesome book! Pearl Buck was an amazing writer! I enjoyed it so much that I looked up the sparknotes on the internet and read about the symbolism, motifs, themes, etc. One interesting little tidbit of information that I learned is that Pearl Buck was a feminist. Interesting eh?

Just a little side note: the love that Wang Lung had for the land reminded me of another of my favorite books, "The Land" by Mildred Taylor.

My favorite line in the book is from page 256 "This I cannot bear! I would sell all my land if it could heal you." Wang Lung

O-lan is probably my favorite character. Her quiet strength is inspiring. She works very hard and says very little, I think this world could use more people like her.
