God Emperor of Dune
by Frank Herbert

** spoiler alert **
This was a trip through the mind of an insane person with a huge ego and biggest god complex of any character I've yet encountered (except maybe Q from Star Trek TNG). Leto II is in some in-between stage of human and sandworm. He is scary and alient to all the characters in the book. Only Duncan Idaho Seona have the bravery to stand against him directly. Attempts are made on the God Emperor's life a few times in the book but he is nearly invincible with his worm body and prescient powers. This book explores some interesting themes, most of them political but some of them religious including ideas about whether living gods deserved to be worshiped and such-like. The Fremen culture exists only as a facsimile now and an embarassing inaccurate one, as Duncan finds out first hand. Duncan Idaho has been resurrected countless times by the start of this book. While many Duncans were the same one Duncan surpasses the others and helps Seona in her mission to destroy Leto II and free the universe from his tyranny. Even while during the end, one half wishes to see Leto II succeed even with the odds against him, part of you is glad to see someone was able to defeat him. You also find out more about the Golden Path in this book.
