Jesus of Nazareth, Part Two: Holy Week: From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection
by Pope Benedict XVI
by Pope Benedict XVI
This is a very good Bible study of the Holy Week, and I enjoyed reading it. I thought one of the most helpful sections was the Epilogue, in which the Pope gave a very helpful explanation of the meaning of the Ascension. But the chapter on the Resurrection was quite good, too.
My main criticism, I guess, would be in what was not said. By that I mean that there is very little written about the relevance of the Bible's account(s) of the Holy Week to living in the "real world" today, at least nothing very concrete. As my students used to say about my lectures on Christianity, it was too abstract.
Nevertheless, I thought the book was certainly worth reading, and I recommend it to those who are interested in learning more, and thinking more, about what the Bible says about the final week in the life of Jesus of Nazareth--and about what happened after his crucifixion.
