It's the season for children's picturebooks about Jane Goodall! (this has been relased alongside Patrick McDonnell's "Me...Jane" pub'ed on 04-05-11).
Author Illustrator Jeanette Winter creates a story focusing on patience-Goodall's patience as a child dreaming of someday studing animals, patience as a young woman saving $ to pay for her trip to Africa, patience in waiting for acceptance by the Chimps in the Gombe. Artwork throughout is lovely, my favorite spreads are of Goodall's mountaintop perch where she would observe and study her chimps, especially the nightime spread of Jane camping out in teh bush with the chimps-a soft pale full moon looming in the distance. Backmatter encourages readers to learn more about Godall's work in the field.Patrick McDonnellJeanette Winterson Jeanette Winterson
