Very interesting book as Ayaan explores her Muslim upbringing, its effect on women in particular and her relationship with God (or Allah). Some thoughts:
1. It is good to explore your religion and ask questions
2. It is good to work toward change that betters conditions in the world around you.
3. I'm sure it was heartbreaking for her family as she explored these issues and ultimately rejected Islam. She was true to what she felt was right and still worked to be a "good" person (though her family may have felt differently). She still reached out to them and helped them as she could. These kinds of events happen in all faiths. It is thought-provoking.

I enjoy reading books that expand my experience in the world and this was one of them.
