A privileged Southern boy is sent to live with distant relatives in the country after losing his family in the Civil War. The title reflects the soul-searching that the boy must do in order to begin to heal the wounds of the war.

A tad condescending in places, but overall enjoyable. I appreciated the emphasis on the amount of hard work it takes to live off the land.

I heard from six kids on this one: two sixes who didn't like it, one who did, and two eights who enthusiastically recommended it.

5th - 8th grade.
