After reading Random (by Lesley Choyce) I had the sudden urge to re-read this book. Luckily, most of Paul Fleischman's stuff is short and moves quickly. I love this book because it goes from depressing-angry-rawr to I-love-people-and-my-life-is-okay in a way that's not cloying or unbelievable. Plus, I'm a total sap for any book with an underlying message of small events can link people and change lives. Sniff.
