All I can say about this book is it's big, I started on this journey because I heard about the TV series starting and thought I would prefer to read the book first. I didn't realise that I had started on such a massive journey; good story though, nice way of using a characters point of view to drive chapters and certainly a big old world to get involved with. I can only imagine that George sits in a room with the Lannister, Stark etc family tree emblazoned on the wall so that he can refer to it constantly to make sure he knows who is who. It's like playing Medieval total war on the laptop, trading daughters for land and seats on the throne, clever stuff but intense.

Sometimes I just want a good old sword fight and a hero I can aspire to.

Good though, worth a read but prepare yourself for the long hall.
