I have to say this was one of the best historical romances I’ve read yet. It had me from hello by swinging right into the story and I loved the setting of a gambling club. What I really liked about this book was that Sara leaves London and goes back home. While I was reading this I fully expected there to be a bunch of delays to constantly keep her in London and bumping into Derek or hanging around his club. So, I was surprised when she went back to her country home and I loved that she left. What I loved about that is that she spent some time away from Derek and dealt with her “fiancée” without anyone’s help. The relationship didn't feel forced this way and seemed a bit more natural. Also, it was good to see that the main characters could stand on their own. A lot of times when an author deems to send the hero or heroine away from each other they fall flat and I end up skimming ahead. This wasn't the case in this book. Anyway the characters, setting, plot, all wonderful. I even liked the villain and was glad she wasn’t overdone like a lot of women villains seem to be.
The only problem I had with this story was the circumstance the two main characters got married under. I’m still struggling to put my finger on why exactly I didn’t like it that way. I think it felt too forced or something. I don’t know and I don’t really want to try and elaborate further on it in fear of spoiling something for whoever hasn’t read this book yet.
