A story of one group of soldiers’ time in a violent Iraq, and how poor leadership contributed directly to an atrocity of rape and murder that still is spoken of today in southern Baghdad. The book may be a bit too long, but the level of detail is CSI-specific. The child rape-murder atrocity committed by American soldiers and chronicled in Fredrick’s book took place in my area of responsibility in Iraq and no one in all our preparatory briefings ever mentioned it. They may not have known themselves. I only learned about the atrocity from Fredrick’s book, though I am pretty sure the Iraqis I worked with remembered.
