** spoiler alert ** Lisa Lutz wrote the odd numbered chapters, and exboyfriend David Haywoard wrote the even numbered - building (or miniziming) from the preceding chapter...She kills off characters she thinks he is going off on tangents - and once he brought him back... she doesn't like his cats, but lets them live...

Paul and Lacey are grown siblings, living in a small, northern California town, in the house they grew up in... They grown and sell marijuana - with the townspeople - especially the two retirement homes - being their biggest customers. Lacey keeps thinking she should be getting out and moving on...

and one night, they find a decapitated body in their yard... they move it to a wildlife area, and 3 days later it is back... this time she recognizes a tattoo, and believes it is her ex-boyfriend - with whom she broke up when he went into meth lab business... and she, more than Paul, become obsessed with finding the murderer...

Their parents died 15 years earlier, in a timeshare cabin with a monoxide lead... but it was a different timeshare couple that were supposed to be in the cabin & they were killed in a car crash 2 months later... by the town doctor - because he wasn't really a doctor and they had figured it out... and then Sook & her exboyfriend were blackmailing the doctor - though Sook only knew he wasn't a doctor... and her exboyfriend isn't really dead - he just wanted people to think he was dead so that Lacey would get his insurance and then they would leave together...

throw in a crooked old folk's home crew, who continue to collect social security from clients who passed... Terry Jakes, a veitnam vet who cycles in & out of crazy and who taught Paul how to raise & sell the weed & ends up dead (mostly because author Lisa did not like David's take of him)... and Brandy - Paul's girlfriend, an expole dancer with a limp because of a pole dancing accident, who is also a Mensa scholar and the exboyfriend's half sister (though she hides this from Paul) - yes another, author disagreement on character development.... and the sheriff's wife stepping out with the exboyfriend, etc...

humorous, convoluted story... the notes between the authors as much fun as the story,
