Mr. Darcy's Diary (Jane Austen Heroes, #1)

I was really excited to read this book because I love Pride and Prejudice and I was curious about Mr. Darcy's point of view. There have been a number of P & P spinoff novels, some of which may be fun reads but my concern is that some also have the characters behaving well, out of character. I read one such book a few years ago (actually, I didn't even finish it) and the author had Mr. Darcy and Bingley and other characters doing and saying things that I found highly unbelievable. I kept thinking, "Bingley wouldn't do that" or "I can't see Darcy acting that way." Jane Austen would be rolling over in her grave.
Anyway, Mr. Darcy's Diary, thankfully, is not one of those books. I think Amanda Grange did a great job in portraying who Mr. Darcy was. We see more of his personality and the entries give us greater insight into Darcy's feelings and character. There were times when I laughed out loud at some of the entries and thought, "He's so arrogant!". And he was. But he was also a loyal friend, devoted brother and responsible and fair in his dealings with others.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I think the author did a wonderful job in showing us Mr. Darcy and I appreciate her accurate timeline. She did her research. The author did take a lot of quotes from P & P and put them in her book. Some of the entries were very long and sometimes I thought, "Mr. Darcy could remember that whole conversation verbatim?" However, I remember being a meticulous journal writer in high school, so I guess it is possible. So if you want a Pride and Prejudice-like book to read, this would be a good one.
