I was a bit surprised that the main characters weren't the same as in the first installment of the trilogy. This means that you spend the first third of the book getting to know them as well as trying to understand what the scenario Gibson describes (from a technological POV is not always that easy), which translates into a slow start.

Chia and Laney are okay, but didn't like them as much as Rydell and Chevette, and at times I found them less interesting than some of the supporting characters. I also found the convergence of the storylines way too diffuse and the concept of chapters a bit on the creepy side.

Two stars and a half rounded up to three.
