SPOILER FREE!

When I first opened my package this afternoon and held the book in my hands my first thought was "It's so small!" and I was kinda disappointed because less book= less Jace for me to love (I'd say that it is a good 1/4 shorter than "City of Glass" is- but don't quote me on that, I am too lazy to check the page numbers). But then I had to remind myself, "Hey Avery... 'Member that time that you thought that this series, your most favourite book series in the entire world and the book series that pretty much defines your life was going to be three books and now it is six book? Yeah, you remember that? So you CANNOT COMPLAIN THAT IT IS SHORT BECAUSE YOU WERE ONLY ORIGINALLY GOING TO GET THREE BOOKS. YOU GOT AN EXTRA THREE BOOKS SO JUST GET READING IT ALREADY!" So yes...

I don't think that I have ever experienced such an emotional roller coaster than I did while reading this book. On one page I could be laughing my butt off at snarky comments from equally snarky characters and the next page my heart could be stomped upon so hard that nothing, not even an iratze, could heal said stomped upon heart.

Upon finishing this book I have come to realize how flat the characters truly were in the earlier books and it sounds kinda dumb when I say it, because I wouldn't have in a million years considered them to be flat- but compared to this book? Yep, totally flat. Why I say that is because in this book each character's personalities shined and flourished like they never have before. Each and every character has grown enormously and characters that in the earlier books I felt only "meh" towards? Well, I feel head over heels for them in this book (ie. Alec and Izzy) and the characters that I previously loved? Jace, Clary, Simon, Magnus? Well I fell even harder for them (which I didn't think was possible).

As for the Jace front? Well, it is obvious that he loved Clary in the earlier books, but I never fully understood to what extent he did. I didn't fully grasp exactly how much she meant to him until last week (or around then) when Cassie posted the scene from "City of Ashes" when Jace, Clary, and the gang go to see the Seelie Court in Jace's POV (http://www.cassandraclare.com/cms/bec...). And in this book? Well it is totally obvious how much he truly cares for her this book.

Though this book give us the lovey-dovey-ness that we all expected, it is by far the most action packed and darkest book of the series, and as mentioned, one page you will be laughing, the next you will be bawling your eyes out and hyperventilating. I don't think that anyone will be disappointed by this book.

Autumn Thank you for the review!
I've been debating on whether I should order this baby for the past few days (Don't ask me why. I don't know, either. Actually, I think I was afraid it'd fall flat after the last book was so good.)
And I think you've just made up my mind.
So hopefully, it's worth my 10 bucks at B&N.
I guess I just have to take a leap and hope it's everything the past books have been and more!

And yay for Spoiler Free things!

Manda Thanks for the spoiler free review as well. I pre-ordered this book because i'm slightly addicted....but then found out that B&N was only SHIPPING it yesterday!! 6-9 business days!! AHHH. I was tempted to cancel the order and just run out an buy it at a local store. but then i took a breath (*sign) and staved my need for instant gratification. reading your review helped me along my process :)

Avery I have to say that I was a bit thrown off by the first third or half of the book. It wasn't quite what I was expecting (I found it to be a bit stereotypical YA with lots of teen angst), but the second half more than made up for it. But I definitely think that it is worth the $10 (You darn Americans and your cheap books... ;) )!

But yes, I don't know what I would have done had Amazon not delivered it to me yesterday (scratch that, I would have driven to my nearest bookstore and got it... But, you understand... ;) ).

Autumn Only because I'm hoping to buy it online, and I have a gift card, is it so cheap. Haha. ;D
It's usually $20 (in store), but if pre-ordered, it's around $10.
So, no fun trip to the book store to get the books. :( But at least it's cheap...

I'm such a sucker for Clary and Jace that I hope whatever "stereotypical YA angst" there is, will at least be REALLY entertaining. :) Hahahaha.

I'm also hoping to buy two other books while I'm at it, so I like to think of it as buy two, get one free. ;)
I really do hope it's as good as the prior books... I'm such a fan of the series, I really don't want to be disappointed.

Heck, I do the same thing! My philosophy is the less you spend on one book, the more you can spend on another... ;)

Autumn I agree with your philosophy! My thinking is because I'm so cheap in nearly all other other aspects of my life, I'm allowed to indulge in the buying of books every once in awhile. :P
And the cheaper the better, because buying books full price makes my heart break more and more by the dollar.
