Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future not only provides a thorough, detailed account of the history of the Dan Dare comic strip, it also paints an evocative portrait of postwar England. More than a mere recounting of who wrote and drew the strip when, and what the stories were, Daniel Tatarsky explains the context of the comic. We learn why it came about when it did, and what real-world events affected its development and helped it become such a huge success. Both a media and social history, this book makes for a much more compelling read than one might expect from a book-length study of a single comic.
