This collection of short stories is a great example of Block's work (I have one more of her books on my list, just so's you know) each story is loosely connected and there's only, maybe one that I could have done without. They're all beautifully written and the pictures they paint stay with you. There's the girl who thinks she loves a man so much tattoos start magically appearing on her skin. There's the girls who go in the canyon looking for blood roses even though they know you only see them when you're about to die. There's teh girl who thinks her boyfriend is an alien and the girl that loves horses. Read this book for a poignant picture of what it is to be a teenage girl in love and still searching for something.
