it was amazing

An absolutely stunning piece of urban sociology. Bayat writes with eloquence and directness, yet at the same time manages to go far beyond the analyses of other interpreters of the politics of the urban poor. Without concealing the cruelty of poverty that so many people are forced to live in, Bayat excavates the hidden mechanisms of politics and transformation that the urban poor utilize in their everyday lives to seek out dignity and greater life chances. Even as just an alternative history of the Iranian revolution, the book shines
