The Offer (Baron, #1)

This is not my usual romance however Catherine Coulter is considered one of the greats so it is on the list. As I am not a straight romance lover I perused her titles with caution. My choice in the Offer was as close to intrigued as I could get. It took me roughly three days to read the novel and overall I enjoyed the journey. I will state that I say that with hesitation. At the end of the novel I thought, okay, whatever. I didn’t feel the warm fuzzies I do with other novels. This is a historical romance and the beginning of the novel was steadily wonderful. The set up was good, the choices in front of the characters were clear.
As I continued to read, in anticipation of the preambles of my own romantic imagination I am waiting for what I want, patiently. Unfortunately it never happens. I don’t ever get the thrilling rush of the two characters finally coming together.
Is there a HEA? Yes. Is it fulfilling? Not really.
The entire book was just on lag side of wonderful. I guess I wanted more. It is a Victorian tale full of society rules, parties, engaging witty conversation and it slowly builds and then falls apart. Well I can’t even say that, it doesn’t fall apart technically, as there is resolution and closure. However the BANG of a great climax that we were working toward ended up as a blip, very disappointing.
Can I say the book was bad, no. Can I say I hated it, no, but when it was all said and done, book closed, story told, I am left hungry.
Satisfying? Unfortunately not.
