This book ended on the worst cliffhanger and I cannot wait to get the sequel in the Fall. Wish it wasn't such a long wait!

This book I thought was better than the first, because Riley and Bodhi are even more established. We get to see more of who Bodhi was when he was alive, though not much. I wonder if he will ever face Nicole and speak with her. Also, seeing what horrible moment Buttercup lived through was so sad. I never really gave thought to how animals feel when they are taken away from their parents and siblings. It makes me even more glad that my cat is a rescued cat, because I know I am the one to have given her a home from the shelter she was brought to as a tiny kitten.

The atrocities that Riley faced when trying to save Rebecca was horrifying, and yet on a historical level fascinating. I loved that the author wove actual history into this book. Riley was brave to face it as she did. Her initial reactions to fear were realistic, and I appreciated that she was not this all powerful, strong, perfect girl. She has a lot of flaws. Some of which I dislike more than others, such as her insistance to do everything opposite of what Bodhi says. I wonder just what will happen to them next...
