This book is probably one of the most serious plots that I have read in the series so far. It's intriguing with the Yacueza and the infusion of Japanese tradition. Also at the same time depressing with the family drama of mother being drunk all the time and searching for affection from other men while at same time the daughter is being abused by the father. Then you still have the humor of Elivs Cole that counteracts some of the seriousness of the book.
