Only Time Will Tell
by Jeffrey Archer
by Jeffrey Archer
Jeffrey Archer is a master story-teller, he has proved it time and again(barring his Prison diaries, of course). Keeping with that the book starts and you are hooked!
Having said that, I have a few observations to make.
When an author publishes the first book if he has already planned it will be a series (or do the authors always decide it that way? Who knows! I am just a reader!), is that likely to have an impact on the book/books till you come to an end! However he has written a trilogy already, where each of the series is a masterfully written book, giving you the satisfaction of having read a good one at the end of it, so he is not a newbie to this! But strangely when Only Time Will Tell ends, it ends like those soaps on TV, where they have to stop it midway through some suspense, so that you come back to see the progress next day/week/whatever. This was totally unexpected from Jeffrey Archer and a first for him! That left a lot of bad taste in the mind of a very dissatisfied reader.
Jeffrey Archer comes to India for almost all of his book launches and is well aware, that he has a large fan-following here. I was wondering whether during the visits to India he has taken time off to see some popular Bollywood movies too! His protagonist gets everything laid on a platter the moment he faces a crisis of any kind and practically comes out unscathed out of it! His friends and acquaintances have just the right connections to make it all fall in the right places and make it smooth-going for him.
Same incident is narrated from the viewpoint of different characters in the book. In the process the are parts which get repeated. Another first for Jeffrey Archer!
