Set in a small, rural village in Africa where secrets can be devasting and ultimately deadly we learn about Chanda's family. Chanda, is struggling with the fallout of her step-father's secrets and lies. At some point her step-papa, Jonah became infected with HIV and passed it along to Chanda's mother and youngest sister, Sarah. Chanda is torn between keeping secrets or seeking help which would might cause her family to be shunned. Throughout this powerful novel Chanda's strength and loyalty prevail and provide some hope in an otherwise bleak tale.

I listened to this on audio and was somewhat dissapointed by the choice of narrator. for me, her voice simply did not seem to match the character.
