Last time I ran out of books I put a slew of things on hold at the library. This one came up because wikipedia mentioned that SM Stirling had an emberverse story in here. I went to pick this up and realized it was 736 pages long. This sucker is *huge*.

As you might guess from the title, it's a collection of military-themed stories, but that covers a large gamut of styles and genres. As such, I didn't care for many of the stories here, but I never disliked it enough to stop reading. I quite liked some other stories, so, there's that. I should mention that "short" is a relative term. George RR Martin's story is 87 pages. (Of course, I liked his story, so I didn't mind too much.) But it's not like the Sword and Sorceress books, either.
