Gosh I liked this book. It's "something's weird ... oh no, it's supernatural!" but the setting, characters, and supernature, are all distinctly Kiwi. It's beautifully and lovingly done, deftly pulled off, and the Kiwiness never becomes gimmicky. There's a clever blending of Roman and Maori mythology, of antiquity and antipodes, and this bookish boy just loved it all. More! More!
