We follow Penelope and lively Londoner Charlotte through 1954 England and experience first loves, crushes and rock and roll. This is an absolutely adorable book, reminiscent of Dodie Smith's superb coming-of-age novel I Capture the Castle. Our book club did not want to leave the world of Johnnie Ray, teenage jealous plots and somewhat bittersweet family dynamics. We only wish the novel could have lasted forever.
