I haven't read this much detailed sex since high school. And oddly enough, for a book this intelligent, one of the main guys has many similarities to the heroes in those trashy romance novels I used to read. The depiction of Renaissance Florence, the lives people led, and the intrigue kept me turning the pages faster than a Jude Devereaux book. But the grisly murder, abhorrent religious practices, and mutilation had me in a sort of dark gloom during it.
