I made the mistake of listening to this instead of reading it for myself. I enjoyed the book quite a bit, but her voice made it difficult to listen for long periods.

Kristen Interesting - I tried to read it and it didn't hold my attention. I've borrowed the audiobook instead, which seems much more compelling thus far.

message 2: by Joan (new)

Joan Sarah Vowell has such a distinctive voice that even though I'm reading the book, I still hear it in my head in her voice!

Shaun I absolutely love Sarahs voice. I listened to The Wordy Shipmates audiobook again on my 8 hour drive home from Chicago. I love her! I wish she did more pieces on This American Life.

Lauryl Oh, I really like Sarah Vowell's voice!
I agree with the previous poster who said that whenever they read her work, they hear her voice in their head. Maybe that's because I came to know her work because of This American Life, though.

Marilee I enjoy Sarah's reading too, especially her dead on inflections and timing, but understand that he voice is distinctive and may not be everyone's cuppa.
