i like basketball; i really like college basketball and i have always enjoyed hearing about Larry Bird. I bought this book for my son but it's sat around the house for a year so i thought i'd read it during march madness. it is heavy on the basketball strategy, most of which is beyond my knowledge but the stories about how the relationship between Bird and Johnson developed over the years was news to me and i enjoyed reading about it. Much attention was paid to their commitment to their basketball skills and since i've never been athletic or played team sports, it was news to me. i was curious how the story would include Magic's diagnosis and the author portrayed an honest, if a little bit sugar coated, version of the truth.

interesting look into an athlete's life - how they prepare their entire childhood to play a sport, then reach the top, only to realize there has to be life after playing the sport. bodies wear out. i would have liked a little more on their lives since basketball and how they applied the lessons they learned but to a sports fan i'm sure the stories about the games and the rivalry is great.

they also include stories about the Dream Team and Michael Jordan - a good read if you like basketball.
