At risk of TMI, I will say this: Jacqueline Carey does an excellent job of making me go from Domme to a little bit anguissette in a single novel...(view spoiler)

I didn't care much for the first third of the story or so where all the world building took place, but there's nothing like international politics and BDSM to spice things up for the rest of the novel. Combine that with well written characters of all sorts of backgrounds and interests and there's no way I won't recommend this for anyone interested in steamy political fantasies (what a combination!).

Not to mention... Anne Bishop, step aside, this woman knows how to write strong, sexy women that don't have Prince Charmings rushing in to save the day. I was fully expecting to read yet another disappointing novel where sexual relationships and BDSM is concerned (can you say the entire Black Jewels series and my recent mistake of a read Fifty Shades of Grey) and came away very surprised, to say the least.

I can't wait to get started on the next book in the series.
