really liked it

The banana plant is an herb. The fruit we eat is the large berry to that plant. Most bananas that we eat are the Cavendish variety, which are all genetically identical and which might be extinct in 20 years. Interested yet? I found this history of the banana very informative and readable. It discusses everything from the theory that the banana might have been the forbidden fruit to banana republics. Available at the local library.

Wendy You are one of the most wide-ranging, eclectic readers I know, Chrishna! It's one of the things I admire about you. :)
