The Poison Throne by Celine Kiernan is the first book in The Moorehawke Trilogy. Wynter returns home with her father after a five year absence to find the kingdom dramatically changed. It has become a place of fear and intolerance. Wynter must make some hard choices and try and keep herself, her friends and her father alive.
OK, this book isn't anything new. It doesn't break any ground or have an original idea or character. That said, it is good and will grab you from the first page. While the characters aren't original, they are very engaging. Wynter is wonderful (though I hope she eventually develops some kind of a dark side) and you instantly bond with her. While the plot is a bit simplistic, it has enough mysteries to keep you intrigued. I will defiantly be reading the rest of the series. Oh and the best bit? All three books are already available.
