One of my employees at work gave this to me to read. He's a serious animal lover, and I have two dogs, so I assume that's why he thought I'd like it. I did like it in some ways, but was disappointed in others.

I usually don't read non-fiction. I have never read a book like this one before. I guess I found it engrossing - I kept finding myself wanting to read it and wanting to get back to it...but I couldn't tell if it was because I wanted it to be over, or I was genuinely interested. A mix of both, perhaps?

The stories inside are short, and I have to say I don't necessarily think the title suits the book. I thought a lot of his stories of the many dogs he's helped rescue kind of...lacked. They lacked what I was looking for. They were more stories about him than they were about the dogs.

One thing I do know...while I read this book I always wanted my two dogs cuddled next to me. It's hard to think of all of the cruelty out there in the world. My only consolation being that I have my dogs, and they are happy, and we are happy as a family. Don't think this book will break your mind with cruelty, though...it's really pretty mild, compared to some TV shows or other things I've heard. Just know it's not all peaches and cream...or peanut butter biscuits.
