This is a pretty good book (despite what some others think :) Hi Maciek...we can't agree on everything LOl). I don't know if I'd call it one of the author's best he has a pretty wide swing in that area. Some I don't care for much at all, others I like very much, so... I give this one 3 stars as, my hands are a bit tied. With such a wide swing in the way I feel about the books if I give one I like a lot a "4" because it's not quite a "5" what do i do with the ones I don't quite like that much? This would maybe be a 3.5, if we had half stars.

The story is fair and not badly written, the story telling is again "pretty good" and I liked it. You will recognize the characters, they are sort of "types". The story is even a "type" as you'll have seen it's like before if you've read much Koontz (as a matter of fact this is an updated version of a book titled "Invasion" that Koontz released under a pseudonym). The two stories seemingly running side by side till they meet is something he's done before.

Compared to some of Koontz "worst" this is fantastic but compared to his best it's only okay. I won't list titles as what I think are his best are not always the titles others think are his best (go figure). Try this one yourself. See what you think. Mundane threats meet otherworldly threats... Koontz actually does this combination rather well.

Werner Mike, have you read Dark Rivers of the Heart, and if so what did you think of it? That's the one Koontz title we have here in the library where I work, and I've had my eye on it for years.

Mike (the Paladin) Yes, and I see I haven't reviewed it. My wife loved Koontz so I read a lot of his work over a compressed period a couple of years ago and liked (most of it) enough that I've kept up.

This is another I'll probably rate a 3 or a 4. It's a pretty good read. Koontz uses some plot points he's gotten comfortable with and if you read much of his "stuff" you'll get to know. The dog and man as partner characters (here he adds a slight twist that works better than some he tried elsewhere. That won't jump out at you if you haven't read the other books). The female is a woman with a troubled, mysterious or hurtful past. The two of them have their own scars to deal with and find strength in each other...eventually. There are two "evils" or "dangers" that converge at the climax. If you go on and read other of his works you'll also recognize the "villain type" and "source".

I liked it pretty well, though it's not one of my 3 or 4 top favorites by him. he has a wide range in books that runs from very, very poor to almost exceptional.

There did I overload you with information and still avoid spoilers LOL. Hope you like it. :)

Werner Thanks, Mike --no information overload or spoilers there! (I'd already read a review of the book in one of the library trade journals when it first came out, so have an idea of the basic premise.) It's on my to-read shelf, and I hope to get to it one of these days (years? decades? :-) ).
