The Princess Diaries 2 "Princess in the Spotlight" was the sequel to one of my all-time favorite books. In most cases, I find that sequels are never as good as the originals, but I actually enjoyed this one very much. It is not a serious book, definitely one that is read more for just pleasure. However, it is an excellent quick read, probably targeted more for teenage girls.
A few things I liked about not only this book, but the entire series in general, is the format. Usually reading a book made up completely of a diary is boring, but obviously this is not the case. Meg Cabot conveys Mia's personality through each and every entry, and tells the story flawlessly. Her mother's marriage, a secret admirer, and and the pressures of being a princess made this book interesting and fresh. I finished it in only a matter of days.
There are a few things that I wish were different. To be honest, I enjoyed the movies over the books, because Mia's relationship with her grandmother was much better. In the series, Mia finds her grandma repulsive, rude, and arrogant. If I could change anything, that would be it. With that said, it was still a great book that I would recommend to any girl of almost any age.
