Step on a Crack (Michael Bennett, #1)

Another beginning to another series, Step on a Crack, following James Patterson's style, is fast-paced simple read. There is no need to think or analyze because everything is pretty much straight-forward.
When Michael Bennet was introduced, I didn't feel a connection. There wasn't a time where I could feel the emotions powerfully affecting me. Sure, he has 10 kids, a wife with cancer, and a tough job. This is the point were I should feel a punch in my heart with sadness, but it didn't appear as I would expect it to. Like other reviewers said, the kids could use more description or better integration into the story.
The ending didn't surprise me as much as I would like, and I felt it deserved more elaboration or something to make the reader remember the story. Overall, it didn't pull me in to continue the story, but I would just to find out what happens because it is an interesting read, just nothing completely new or shocking.
