Black Potatoes paints the tale of the Great Famine Irish history. From 1845 to 1852 a devastating crop shortage happened in Ireland, and most of their potatoes become inedible. The Irish were almost completed depending on potatoes for survival and nearly a fourth of the population died during this time period (roughly 1 million people). Whole towns vanished and villages were decimated. The book is a series of short stories and background on the disaster to help the reader truly know how terrible the famine was. I found the read interesting, but not the style or content that keeps me riveted and waiting for more. This book was another good history book for someone interested in knowing more about Irish history.
