i really liked this book quite a bit. i'd give it 4 1/2 stars if i could. it's probably the best book i've read this year so far. i thought the story was really inspirational and a true testament to the courage and grit of so many mothers out there who make do with the only things they've got. what i really liked about the book is how it illustrates that even when life has dealt you a pretty terrible hand, it is still possible to choose the way you will respond to it. this mother didn't sit idly by bemoaning the fact that she had so many kids to take care of, no money, and an alcoholic husband -- she used her brain, her wit, her talents and skills and she raised those 10 kids on 25 words or less (the common parameters for an entry in a contest back in those days). i enjoyed reading this book.
