Sin in the Second City: Madams, Ministers, Playboys, and the Battle for America's Soul
by Karen Abbott
I love it! It's taking me forever to finish it because children ate my brain and it's yet to grow back... but I LOVE it! Read it! We'll discuss! (Sidenote about discuss - eventually we'll get out act together and start Book and Pie again - you're game right?)
OMG puh-leeze let me know about Book and Pie club. I broke up with my old book club (no fault of theirs--the selections just veered away from my tastes) and I'm still recovering from the heartbreak. Also, I am learning to bake.
Totally know what you mean about staring out the bus window instead of reading your book! But I'm glad you liked it anyway.

** spoiler alert **
Good gravy this book took me just this side of forevr to finish up! I don't know what my problem was! Okay that's a lie - I know that I was just this side of exhausted for the last two and a half months and whenever I was on the bus I would stare dumbly out the window instead of reading because read was just way too difficult. THAT was the problem.
I did like this book, but I wish that it had stayed with the sisters more and left some of the secendary characters sans storyline. In all honesty, I"m still not sure I learned all that much about the Everleigh sisters themselves... perhaps it was the secret and lie coats they wore during their lifetimes... who knows.
All in all a solid non-fiction read that felt almost like a narrative!
