The Talent Code: Unlocking the Secret of Skill in Sports, Art, Music, Math, and Just About Everything Else

This is book is a variation on the theme developed by Malcolm Gladwell in Outliers. Like Outliers, this is not a book dedicated to education. Coyle mentions the 10,000 hour rule (most experts in any field have practiced at least 10,000 hours) and build on Carol Dwek's research that effort is the key driver of achievement, not ability.
He argues that "deep practice," where people understand the whole process (which reminds me of David Perkin's book, "Making Learning Whole") but then slow steps down to focus on each step, paying particular attention to their mistakes, is what builds expertise. Key to building expertise is coaching.
The book contains multiple stories of how deep practice and coaching works ranging from soccer players in Brazil to skate-boarders in California.
Intriguing and worthwhile read.
