I can't remember how long it's been since I read a Star Trek book. I used to have dozens and dozens of them, I used to read nothing else - but that was when I was younger and a lot less discriminating in my choice of reading material. Let's face it, movie novelisations are never good, and that's not a criticism of the movie. Especially not this movie, because it's awesome. But if these authors were any good they'd be writing their own material, wouldn't they? I won't say this book is appallingly written, but let's just say I could point you a dozen fanfic authors who could do a better job in a weekend. I only bought it to see if there were any Pike scenes that didn't make it into the movie!
