I finally finished it and it only took a month! The more I read the more I admire the breadth and scope that Mr. Seth needed to write this tome. Not only do you have the overlapping stories of the four main families and friends there is the turbulent political situation in India the short time after the British left. There is also land reform, law, environmentalism, cricket, Partition and many other things that I just nodded my head while reading because I had no idea what it was about (mostly cricket). Even more amazing is the fact that the setting takes place the year before the author was even born! As long as it was (1473 pages), after it was over I still had questions. I could have kept reading because the characters felt like family members. I was there for births, deaths, weddings and all the events that make you part of a family. I want letters and updates as to how all the characters are managing since I left them at the end of the book. I suppose it's too much to ask...more
