_The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman_ (1971) by Ernest J. Gaines
Fictional biography of a black slave, who lived for 100 years after the Civil War.

I have not read this book. On 3/22/11, I watched (streamed from Netflix) the TV movie which was adapted from the book:
"The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman" (TV 1974)
The film stars Cicely Tyson as Jane Pittman .

A user review at IMDb says: "The ending is one of the most emotional and moving things ever produced for a TV movie... with simple, fearless dignity, Miss Jane Pittman makes her final, and most magnificent stand against the racism that she'd known all her life."
