I really enjoy Mr. Connelly's books, mostly because of what they have and also because of what they don't, that is explicit sex, excessive foul language and gory violence. What they do have is intelligent plotting, surprises and interesting characters. I've never been in the police and fortunately haven't had to have many dealings with the law, but Mr. Connelly seems to know what he's writing about.

"The Closers" is one of his books featuring Harry Bosch, who has just come out of retirement to join the LA police again. He is assigned to a squad that reopens old murder cases as new evidence comes to light, such as DNA. The 17-year-old murder of a young girl is his first case in the "closer" squad. The case has been reopened because DNA taken from the murder weapon has been matched to a small-time criminal. Right away Bosch and his partner can see that things aren't going to be straightforward as the new suspect's criminal history doesn't fit with the murder. Things become more complicated the more they investigate. I was engrossed in the story from start to finish.
