Summarize the book without giving away the ending.
Ugh... a hard one. Well so, Charlie is a detective/cop, she's a mom who is divorced (with due cause). Her sister is a magical user and other humans in this day and age are. There also are ghouls, demon like creatures and angelic creatures that walk around on earth. They both came from two other dimensions discovered by some brilliant scientist. Anyways, at a school (Charlie's daughter is enrolled there) a student, (whom Charlie knows) is found unconscious due to ash (a poisonous drug that puts it's victims in a coma they rarely survive). She wants an end to this now and uses whatever means, including those that endanger her own life and those around her. But she doesn't stand for people close to her getting hurt, she did enough of that when she died 8 months ago. That's right died. She's alive now, and is having many nightmares about strange men surrounding her when she was dead. In her search for the people who are making ash she runs into one of those familiar faces. Her savior, who isn't necessarily a good guy.

Was the time period important to the story?
Yes very. Dates are often noted in this book to help us know what is going on this world, when the supernatural crossed over and how they are influencing the world now.

Were the characters and their problems believable?
This is a fictional piece of work, but the author was well detailed and filled her main character with life which made her and the situations revolving around her very believable. In my opinion I can't say the same for all the other characters, some appeared to be general, but there were quite a lot important characters.
