I can remember reading several of Hemingway's novels in high school and really hating them. We read this in our book group and it was heartily disliked. To the point that I doubt anyone will attempt another Hemingway book in that club again. My biggest problem is the lack of emotion that his charactors experience and elicit within me. Another really annoying aspect of Hemingway's style- long sections of dialogue with no clue as to whom is saying what. I hate that I have to start at the top of the conversation and mentally tell myself who is saying what. Ugh. I gave the book two stars because I liked the descriptions of the european towns.
