I've learned long ago to stop reading the flap copy, especially for picture books. I want to plunge in, completely fresh, and see if I want to jump out or stay in for a while.

When I opened this book, I didn't make the connection between Jane Goodall and the protagonist, Jane. I thought the relationship between her and her monkey were adorable, and the worlds she imagined were illustrated to perfection. At the end of the book, I was completely knocked out by the photograph of the real Jane Goodall and an actual chimpanzee. I love books where people achieve their childhood dreams, and this one is exceptional. Great topic, fantastic illustrations.
